Cuba - Ranching near Camaguey

Cuba - Rural Ranching

Outside the city of Camaguey, we visited a large ranch. It was formerly one of the King ranches. In this short posting, we see a working ranch, a rodeo display that was exhibited just for us, and a village on the ranch.

We were given an exciting and a gracious rural welcoming to the ranch.

Our host, a real entertainer, was particularly proud of his trained rooster.

The bulls attracted much attention from our group.

The rodeo consisted of a half-dozen events that resembled rodeos throughout North America.

The village on the ranch had an outdoor movie theatre with a concrete screen. It had fallen into disrepair.

In the ranch village, we visited the house of one of the ranchers and his family.

We were given refreshments in the yard of the house we visited. As we were treated to the fruit that grows in the yard, we also noted the simple beauty of the flowers and trees.

Our visit to the ranch was a fascinating change of pace from our visits to the towns and cities of Cuba. We had a good glimpse of life in cattle country.

The cowboy culture reminds me of Guanacaste province of Costa Rica. Great photos, Dad!
